Policy Fellowship

Center for Legislative Accountability

The American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF) is looking for a Policy Fellow to join our team.

This position works within ACUF’s Center for Legislative Accountability (the Center) on year-round legislative initiatives in Congress and each of the 50 states. He/she is responsible for assisting with the production of ACUF’s legislative ratings, compiling and evaluating information collected though state-based contacts, and generating legislative scorecards for publication.

This position is based just outside the nation’s capital in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Work hours are generally between 9am-6pm Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be required during events such as the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Duties & Responsibilities

⦁ Conduct in-depth research to demonstrate the political, social, and/or regulatory implications of proposed and existing state legislation;

⦁ Support the Center in producing ACUF’s state legislative ratings, including aggregating state legislative roll call votes for compilation into matrices, proofreading scorecards prior to release;

⦁ Assist with the Center’s data project for a new website tool;

⦁ Assist with federal and state award assembly and delivery;

⦁ Proactively improve the Center’s system of rating each session of Congress and all 50 state legislative bodies and 8,000 elected officials;

⦁ Assist the Center with various legislative analysis and administrative tasks, including preparation for the 2021 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Qualifications & Requirements

⦁ Passionate about the principles of limited government, personal responsibility, and free enterprise;

⦁ Legislative experience preferred;

⦁ Knowledge and experience with politics and regulatory and legislative processes;

⦁ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with particular emphasis on Excel;

⦁ Strong written and verbal communication skills;

⦁ Ability to work successfully on an individual basis or in a team environment, and exercise sound professional judgment;

⦁ Keen attention to detail.

Education

⦁ At least two years of relevant work experience;

⦁ Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Duration and Compensation

⦁ The fellowship will commence May 4, 2020 and concludes March 1, 2021.

⦁ In addition to the training and professional development opportunities, Policy Fellows are compensated at an hourly rate of $15.00.
