American Conservative Union Thanks Chairman Ajit Pai for Strong Leadership at Federal Communications Commission

WASHINGTON DC — Today, the American Conservative Union (ACU) thanked Ajit Pai for his incredibly influential and successful tenure as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). ACU is grateful for all the work Chairman Pai was able to do during his tenure as Chairman of the FCC, including his willingness to take on the radical left, despite ongoing threats to himself and his family, in order to save free speech and the internet by removing draconian Obama-era Title II FCC rules regulating the internet. Chairman Pai’s focus at the FCC has been clear from the start: a strong pro-innovation and free-market approach to the agency.

Chairman Pai’s dedication to working in the public square, ensuring that any and all new rules and initiatives coming from the FCC during his tenure would be done with transparency, was critical in giving the agency needed credibility in order to pursue much of the impactful work it did during the last four years.

The push for greater allocation of spectrum during Chairman Pai’s tenure has helped pave the way for a slew of new technologies that have been extremely critical to expanding the digital economy, closing the digital divide, and providing the incentive for greater investment into broadband, making the internet what it is today and what it will grow to be years from now.

Chairman Pai’s dedication to serving the public could not have been more clearly demonstrated than with many of the lesser discussed initiatives he was able to get done: new rules on telehealth, rural broadband, strengthening the suicide hotline, and working towards providing fair and equitable treatment for how incarcerated individuals can communicate with loved ones.

Finally, it cannot be overstated how courageous Chairman Pai fought to save free speech on the internet. His work to restore internet freedom and remove the Title II regulations imposed on the internet by the Obama FCC was critical to keeping the internet as a place for free thought and innovation. On a daily basis, the Chairman and his family faced threats and harassment from the radical left. Even a bomb threat at the FCC on the day of the monumental vote to restore internet freedom did not scare or sway Chairman Pai’s resolve. He fought hard, and stood on the side of freedom of speech. For that, we will be forever grateful.

The American Conservative Union thanks Chairman Ajit Pai for his work advancing free market policies at the FCC.
