Larry Beasley

Board Member

Larry Beasley became President and CEO of The Washington Times (TWT) in October 2012 just after the company celebrated its 30th anniversary.  Mr. Beasley joined the company at a time of great challenge and has helped lead the company through an intensive period of product line expansion, strategic turnaround, improving TWT’s news and business operations, as well as cultivating an aggressive customer-focused and profit-minded environment.  Mr. Beasley’s considerable professional and personal experience has allowed him to instinctively resonate with TWT’s founding principles of freedom, faith, family, and conservative values.

Mr. Beasley’s impressive career includes leadership in a number of notable media properties.  In 1998, he became General Manager of the Pulitzer Prize-winning St. Petersburg Times’ Pasco, Hernando and Citrus regional editions. He managed six bureaus covering 1800 square miles.

In the early 1990’s, after working his way up through the print journalism ranks in California, Missouri, Florida, and Texas, Mr. Beasley became President, CEO, and Publisher of the Los Angeles Daily News, then under the ownership of Jack Kent Cooke, the long-time owner of the Washington Redskins.  By 1997, Mr. Beasley completed the challenging project of transforming the Daily News into one of the first metro papers to successfully convert to a 50” web, which Mr. Beasley believed was the future of newspaper publishing. Mr. Beasley’s successful partnership with Mr. Cooke lasted until Mr. Cooke’s death.

Mr. Beasley spent nine years in top management with Harte-Hanks newspapers in Texas and California. He moved into the Dallas-Fort Worth market in the 1980’s, where he was Publisher for three suburban daily newspapers for the Belo Corporation, parent company of the Dallas Morning News.  He later served as a top-level executive for the Donrey Newspaper Group, was President and Publisher for Ingersoll Newspapers in St. Louis, and joined Stauffer Communications as Publisher of ten publications in Central Florida.

Throughout his distinguished career in the news industry, Mr. Beasley has played an active role in numerous non-profit and community organizations.  In Florida, he served on the Advisory Board of the Visitor’s Welcome Center of Pasco; the Board of Directors of the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce; the Pasco Education Foundation; and the Hernando YMCA. Mr. Beasley was also the President of Kids Voting Tampa Bay.  Under his three-year leadership, the Kids Voting program grew to encompass five counties throughout the Tampa Bay region.  While in Los Angeles, Mr. Beasley was a Founder’s Circle Member of the Alliance for the Arts; Co-Chair of the Economic Alliance of San Fernando Valley; member of the Board of The Employers Group; Vice-Chair of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association; Advisory Board of the Valley Cultural Center; the Fernando Award Board; and the Advisory Board of the North Valley YMCA.

Mr. Beasley is a native of South Texas.  He and his wife, Laurie, have three grown children who have each achieved their own successful business careers after graduating from college.
