Charles
R. Black Jr.
ACU board member Charles R. Black is the chief executive
officer of Black, Kelly, Scruggs & Healey.
Black is best known as one of America's leading Republican political strategists.
He served as senior advisor to Presidents Reagan and George H.W. Bush. He
also served as a principal public spokesman for George H.W. Bush during the
1992 presidential campaign. In 1990, Mr. Black served as chief spokesman
for the Republican National Committee.
As an attorney with more than 25 years of experience in government, public
affairs and politics, Mr. Black has managed the successful campaigns of more
than 10 members of the U.S. Senate and more than a dozen members of Congress.
He has also acted as political consultant to U.S. Senators Jesse Helms, Bob
Dole, Phil Gramm and Dave Durenberger, and as political director of the Republican
National Committee under Chairman Bill Brock.
Mr. Black currently serves as the principal legislative and public affairs
advisor to several Fortune 500 companies and trade associations.
In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for ACU, Mr. Black resides
on the Boards of the Fund for American Studies, the U.S. Air Force Academy
Foundation and The Mills Corporation.
A native of North Carolina, Mr. Black is a member of the North Carolina Bar.
He holds a B.A. in political science from the University of Florida and a
J.D. from the American University.
