ACU Urges No New Taxes in Utah

AS THE UTAH LEGISLATURE DEBATES THE GOVERNOR'S BUDGET, THE AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE UNION URGES THE LEGISLATURE AND GOVERNOR TO FIRMLY OPPOSE ANY NEW TAXES ON THE CITIZENS OF UTAH

As the nation's oldest and largest grassroots organization, the American Conservative Union has fought for decades against higher taxes and wasteful government spending.

Now as the Utah Legislature begins debate on the Governor's proposed budget, the ACU is urging state lawmakers to make a strong stand against higher taxes.

"The Governor has introduced a budget with no tax increases. However, he has refused to say that he would veto a budget with tax increases and House Speaker Dave Clark has said in news interviews that everything could be on the table. The ACU encourages both Governor Herbert and Speaker Clark to take tax increases firmly off the table," said ACU Executive Vice President and former Reagan Deputy Secretary of Labor, Dennis Whitfield.

"Higher taxes are a sure way to stifle economic growth and Utah families and businesses cannot afford to send more money to the government during these tough economic times," said Whitfield.

"Americans are taxed too much...we urge lawmakers in Utah to avoid putting additional burdens on the Utah economy," Whitfield added.
