ACU SAYS PELOSI ENERGY PACKAGE “A JOKE”

Alexandria, VA—The American Conservative Union has blasted the package of energy legislation announced by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi “a joke the American people cannot afford to laugh at.”  Pelosi said the package of bills announced Thursday would be voted on before the Fourth of July recess.

ACU Chairman David A. Keene said it is remarkable that Speaker Pelosi could decide to put to a vote four pieces of energy legislation without one provision that would lessen the burden of high energy prices on the American consumer or provide for their future energy needs,” Keene said.  “As with the massive energy bill passed last year, these bills reject every proposal to increase domestic energy supply, whether it’s opening a tiny portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR),  allowing environmentally safe offshore oil drilling or increasing badly needed refining capacity.  As the price of gasoline goes through the roof and oil price inflation begins to affect other goods, the American people have begun to see through the rhetoric and understand nothing of substance is being done.  Congress should reject any legislation that does not provide some increase in the supply of energy.”
