House Votes to Prevent Massive Expansion of Government-Run Healthcare
Washington, DC— On October 18, 2007, the U.S. House of Representatives successfully upheld President Bush’s SCHIP veto (273-156).
By upholding the veto, conservatives in congress demonstrated their commitment to fiscal responsibility and continued efforts to prevent government-run health care.
Despite this success, several Republicans voted with the Democratic leadership to override the President’s veto and prevent poor children from being insured before expanding the program to provide tax dollars to middle-class children and adults.
