Conservatives Applaud Nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito
to Serve on U.S. Supreme Court

ALEXANDRIA, VA – David Keene, chairman of the American Conservative Union, the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots lobbying organization, today issued the following statement:
“The American Conservative Union enthusiastically endorses President Bush’s nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito to serve as an Associate Justice on the United States Supreme Court. Judge Alito is eminently qualified and has distinguished himself during the last fifteen years on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit as a highly intelligent, principled jurist.”

“During his career Judge Alito has argued numerous cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and the federal courts of appeals. He possesses an in-depth knowledge of the constitution and its appropriate application.”

“Judge Alito was unanimously confirmed by the U.S Senate to his current post on the U.S. Court of Appeals and has proven himself worthy of that unqualified support. It is our fervent hope that the Senate will now be able to move forward with deliberate speed, in the absence of divisive partisanship, to thoroughly review the qualifications of Judge Alito and take action on his nomination before the end of the year.”
