ACU
Statement on Miers’ Withdrawal
“It is now
time for the President to move forward with the selection of a Supreme
Court nominee who possesses a thorough understanding of the Constitution
and who has the intellectual strength to strictly interpret the framers’
original intent.” –David Keene, ACU Chairman
ALEXANDRIA,
VA – David Keene, chairman of the American Conservative
Union, the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots lobbying organization,
today issued the following statement:
“The
American Conservative Union respects Harriet Miers’ request that
President Bush withdraw her nomination as a justice on the United States
Supreme Court. We hold no animosity toward Ms. Miers, but rather we
believe that she was a victim of the wrong decision at the wrong time.
Clearly Ms. Miers is a trusted confidant of the President and we hope
that she will continue to serve the President in whatever capacity he
deems appropriate.
We believe
it is now time for the President to move forward with the selection
of a Supreme Court nominee who possesses a thorough understanding of
the Constitution and who has the intellectual strength to strictly interpret
the framers’ original intent.”
