Conservatives
Pledge Unqualified Support for President Bush's Supreme Court nominee
John G. Roberts
Alexandria, VA - The American Conservative Union, the nation's oldest
and largest Conservative grassroots organization, today enthusiastically
endorsed President Bush's nomination of John G. Roberts, Jr. to the
Supreme Court and pledged their full support during the Senate advice
and consent process.
"ACU has been
steadfast in its call for the nomination of a conservative, strict constructionist
to the Supreme Court," said ACU Chairman David Keene.
"President Bush has made an excellent selection in John Roberts,
a solid conservative jurist of keen intellect and unquestioned integrity."
Having argued many
cases before the Supreme Court and having served on the U.S. Court of
Appeals for the District of Columbia, John Roberts brings hands-on experience
to the Supreme Court. Additionally, as a former principal deputy solicitor
general and associate White House counsel, Roberts possesses a thorough
understanding of the workings of government and the judicial system.
"John Roberts
is an outstanding choice for the Supreme Court," Keene continued.
"The Senate should now move expeditiously to review his qualifications
and confirm him so that he can take his seat on the Supreme Court bench
the first Monday in October."
