Ratings Award Reception

The American Conservative Union’s Congressional Ratings awards for 2010 were made official on Thursday with a Capitol Hill reception. ACU Chairman Al Cardenas did the honors as dozens of members of the House and Senate came by for their award and a photo.
Although any member of the House and Senate that scores 80% or better receives the ACU Conservative designation, the Defender of Liberty Award is reserved for those who score a perfect 100. An analysis by ACU Vice Chairman Dr. Donald Devine showed a polarization of Democrat and Republican voting – a record 240 House members earned an ACU rating of 20 or less while a new record of 150 received a perfect liberal rating of zero.
Meanwhile, House Republicans scoring an ACU rating of 80% or higher (thus eligible for the award) went up from 154 members in 2009 to 161 in 2010. Those earning a perfect 100% increased from 56 members in 2009 to 77 in 2010.
On the Senate side, perfect “progressive” scores of zero increased from 24 to 28 Senators, while 34 Senators got the minimum conservative score of 80 or better, up from 33 in 2009. Finally, the Defender of Liberty award winners went up from 10 in 2009 to 12 in 2010.
