CPAC 2010 :: Vice President Dick Cheney
Vice President Dick Cheney: Thank you. Thank you all very much. Thank you. Knock it off. A welcome like that’s almost enough to make me want to run for office again. But I’m not a-gonna do it. But I believe very deeply in something Dave said earlier, and that is that there comes a time when those of us of our generation need to move on and make certain that the younger generation has an opportunity to step up and take on the responsibilities that are so important in terms of the future of the nation. And I am enormously proud of my daughters and so, she said I could come with her but I had to be arm candy.
But in all sincerity, one of the highlights of my years in public office have been the opportunity to come before CPAC. Dave has been kind enough to invite me time after time, and I’ve deeply enjoyed it. Partly because this organization is so important in terms of keeping alive the basic fundamental commitment to those principles that have been just essential in our 200-year history as a nation.
So the, as I look to the future now, I think the developments that we’ve seen over the last several months are enormously encouraging. I think when we can achieve the kind of results that we’ve achieved in places like Virginia and New Jersey and Massachusetts the sky’s the limit here. I think 2010 is gonna be a phenomenal year for the conservative cause. And I think Barack Obama is a one term president.
So again, let me, let me thank you. Thank you for all the time and energy and effort you’ve committed to our common cause. You’ve been fantastic and as I say, there’s some great years ahead of us. It’s very, very important that we succeed and I’ll do everything I can, but I, most especially I want to encourage that younger generation, all of you who – and that’s most of you – who are younger than I am. It really is, it’s a remarkable time to be an American and a remarkable time to be a conservative, and good luck. Thank you all very much.
