Advice for Bush and Gore

Al Gore has lost and for his own future should admit defeat. He has never been ahead in Florida and the chance a court will overturn this now is miniscule, even one as politicized as the Florida supreme court. If it were not for George Bush's lawyers, he would not even be in the U.S.
Supreme Court. If it dared to act this late, the GOP has the trumping option of the Florida legislature and its majority in Congress. Gov. Bush should just go ahead with being governor and with his transition in as quiet and dignified manner as possible until Gore concedes. Some nondescript type - not a campaign attack dog but someone quietly shrewd - should hold a boring news conference every day announcing something no one cares about. In response to questions, the Gore legal antics should be dismissed with a word or two and a wan smile. Forget about the key to the transition office and work on personnel and policy. Most presidents-elect are too distracted by the public events anyway and this forced concentration on essentials should be a blessing in disguise.
