Defense of the West:
American Values Under Siege
American values and institutions are under stress, from terrorist attacks by opposing worldviews abroad to widespread domestic skepticism that American traditions are more valuable than others. In Defense of the West, Donald J. Devine asks whether these values can survive or be defended in a West that questions all traditions. Devine raises questions that are answered as the chapters develop, keeping readers engaged, while preventing quick dismissals of the concerns held by those not inclined to support the book’s thesis – that Western vision and American values are worth questioning or defending. All standard solutions are considered and are brought together in an investigation of Western values that has a traditionalist bent, but still leaves the largest questions open for the reader to contemplate – including whether American values will, in fact, survive.
In Defense of the West tells the story of the Western vision and its American values and institutions in a simple, easily communicated manner to a nation that is quickly losing an understanding of its roots.
Donald J. Devine, former Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, is an esteemed columnist, a Washington-based policy consultant, and Vice Chairman for the American Conservative Union.
Reagan's
Revolution:
The Untold Story of the Campaign That Started It All
Reagan's Revolution: The Untold Story of the Campaign That Started It All is the first book to examine in detail Ronald Reagan's campaign for the presidency in 1976 against incumbent President Gerald Ford; shedding light on the only undocumented chapter in the political legacy of one of the most beloved and revered presidents in American history. The extensive research process undertaken prior to embarking on this project enabled Mr. Shirley to write the book with an insiders' perspective and include an accounting of many historically significant and previously never published events leading up to and during the 1976 election.
This overlooked part of Ronald Reagan's political career thrust him into the national spotlight and proved to be the launch pad for the modern-day conservative movement. Although he was not his party's nominee for the presidency in 1976, Ronald Reagan's campaign changed the American political landscape forever.
